Kcell, the leading mobile operator in Kazakhstan, has announced the market launch of mobile payment terminals (mPOS). The mPOS-terminals are sold under the K-Pay brand through Kcell’s network of proprietary service centers in Kazakhstan.
Kazkommertsbank has become Kcell’ mobile acquiring partner. The mobile operator will provide pre-processing services and sell the payment devices directly to the customers.

Kcell’s K-Pay mPOS-terminals are intended for different business segments ranging from the food delivery companies and Internet-stores to dentist’s rooms, taxi services, convenience stores, pharmacies and beauty salons.

“We appreciate the confidence given to us by KCELL. The project implementation has become possible thanks to our partnership with Ingenico, a leading global manufacturer and provider of POS-terminal equipment. In this project Ingenico acts as RP350x card reader provider. This best-of-breed device outperforms its counterparts available in the market. Launch of the pioneer project in Kazakhstan is the next milestone of our strategic partnership with Ingenico,” says Andrey Balandin, sales director at Corporate Technologies Center (www.m4bank.ru).

K-Pay is a complete solution for mobile acquiring consisting of mobile applications and the payment terminal. According to the operator, the new mPOS-solution can receive and process cashless card-based payments at any point within the coverage of Kcell and Activ mobile networks, which include over 5,000 settlements across Kazakhstan today.

The project was implemented on the M4Bank.MPOS m-commerce platform from Corporate Technologies Center in less than 3 months. The service is available to individual entrepreneurs and legal entities having a bank account. The free mobile application is available to the owners of smartphones and tablets based on Android.

The mPOS-terminal is compatible with iOS or Android smartphones (more than 100 models of smartphones) and operates through K-Pay, a free application placed on GooglePlay. By the end of August the app will be also available in the AppStore.

An interesting peculiarity of the offer is that the traffic needed for payments will not be chargeable to subscribers of Kcell, Activ and Vegaline. Besides, the device can also work with non-mobile Internet channels.

The terminal is available in all 20 service centers of Kcell. The project is planned to be extended to tens of thousands of mobile devices all over Kazakhstan.

“Mobile payments technologies today are becoming ingrained in our everyday lives,” believes Evgeny Savelyev, Corporate Account Manager, Russian Division of Ingenico. “For Kcell’s special benefit, we have developed a branded line of RP350x mobile card readers. It was a very interesting project, which will be continued, I am sure. We implemented this project together with our partners – Corporate Technologies Center and CBS Engineering. I am glad that everything has worked out! We are confident about the future of the mobile technology for acceptance of payments: they will be developed rapidly on the CIS markets. ”

According to the report of the National Bank of Kazakhstan, the country sees a dynamic growth of cashless bank-card payments. As of December 1, 2013, banks issued 15.1 million payment cards, and the number of cardholders exceeded 13.4 million. Besides, most of cashless payments were made at POS-terminals and ATMs in 2013.

By the end of 2013 the number of POS-terminals installed at the merchants’ sites grew by 46.8% to amount to 40.117. The number of outlets where POS-terminals are installed also increased significantly (by 58%) to reach 33.709.
