Secure mobile card reader to accelerate EMV adoption by providing cost effective solution for chip-based payment acceptance
NEW ORLEANS, April 30, 2013 – ROAM, an Ingenico company and the leading mobile commerce platform provider, today announced the release of the RP350x, the world’s first ever PCI-PTS and SRED-certified Chip and Sign mobile card reader. The release of this EMV-approved device is part of ROAM’s broader strategy to provide merchants of all sizes, industries and geographical regions with innovative mobile point of sale (mPOS) solutions that comply with the latest global payment standards.
Today, approximately 1.5 billion EMV cards have been issued globally and 21.9 million POS terminals accept EMV cards. In the United States, card brands have set aggressive deadlines for the conversion to EMV chip–based cards and ROAM is ahead of the game by making sure the U.S. market is ready for this transition. The reader provides a low cost solution for enabling Chip and Sign payment acceptance, as the device is only a fraction of the cost of standard EMV-enabled terminals.
“As we continue to move towards a more EMV standardized world, ROAM is seeing a demand from both businesses that have yet to migrate to this technology and need to catch up, and from businesses that have already migrated but want to go mobile,” said Ken Paull, CEO of ROAM. “The RP350x will meet all of these demands and more by providing the most secure, convenient and affordable EMV-approved mobile point of sale solution on the market.”
Key features of the RP350x include:
- Audio jack connector with proprietary audio protocol interface
- End-to-end encryption upon card read
- Integrated extended life rechargeable battery
- LED indicators for battery and reader status
- Micro USB port for PC and power connection
- Compatible with iOS and Android™ mobile devices
The RP350x is ROAM’s latest hardware offering to be fully integrated within its end-to-end mobile commerce platform. The device was first demonstrated in Paris, France at Cartes 2012, and ROAM will be unveiling the RP350x in the United States for the first time at this week’s 2013 ETA Annual Meeting & Expo in New Orleans, LA.
